1. This past Sunday the Space held its year 3 celebration for Spaceworks entitled “Spaceworks Destination”! The event was a wonderful gathering of Space Cadets, SYD, Workspace Members, and their families for some delicious food and drinks and light entertainment.
Members of Spaceworks provided the fantastic array of food for the event while the Space staff ran a mean and positively green mock tail bar. (Strawberry and Kiwi with Lemonade? Yes please!) Very tasty and very refreshing. As the afternoon wore on and members of Spaceworks met one another and the public through “People Bingo” as well as yearbooks, the real ceremonies got underway.
A truly inspirational and lovely short film was screened, highlighting the creative individuals that make up the three groups that comprise Spaceworks. (A round of applause for Alex and Sam for such lovely work on the film.) After the film Alex, Matt, Carys, and Becki, gave out the golden Spaceworks awards for the term. (Really they were gold. Take my word for it. No spray paint involved.) Awards included Most Enthusiasm, Most Likely to Grab a Pint During Break, Most Spirited Artist, and Most Likely to Injure Self.
After the awards ceremony each group of Spaceworks led a game or exercise that they enjoy. It was great fun seeing parents and other members of the community getting involved and letting their hair down when it came to the games. The island has some pretty creative people on it.
A few words and speeches were peppered into the festivities as the afternoon wore on and the sun went down. Centre Director Adam said a few words on the nature of the program and gave his praise to Company Manager Alex who is leaving the Space in a professional sphere. (Don’t worry! Alex will be back and better than ever as both a patron and visiting director.)
The afternoon was truly a lovely way to spend ones Sunday and celebrate 3 years of Spaceworks success. We look forward to what the next 3 years hold for Spaceworks.
