The SpaceWorks Triple Decker
Last Saturday was the first performance of the SpaceWorks Triple Decker; a chance for all SpaceWorks members to perform on the same date in between Space Production’s two part performances of Nicholas Nickleby. This was the first time EVER that this had occurred and all SpaceWorks members were very excited by the proposition. Everyone arrived promptly at 5.45pm, in costume, ready to...

'Am I the Furious Gentleman or the Irate...
Last Monday WorkSpace set about furiously rehearsing their Nicholas Nickleby scene in preparation for their performance this Saturday. The group will be performing one of the edited scenes of Space Productions ‘The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby’ staring Sir Matthew Pupker and Mr Bonney (corrupt politicians who just don’t have a clue!). Due to member’s...
'Mr B.J.Ectoplasm' Trials of a Pratt
Last Monday, again marked the SYD final rehearsals before their performance this Saturday. Again, this meant that the group had a great deal to rehearse before curtain up. Sean immediately set about discussing the SYD’s availability for the shows and re-working some of the scenes based on who couldn’t be there due to school exams. This turned out fine in the end and we (hopefully)...
It'sssss Show Time! (On Saturday!)
Yesterday was the final day of Space Cadet rehearsals before their big performance this Saturday. This meant that we had a lot to do and a great deal to tell the children about. Once we had caught up on everyone’s weeks, Sean told the Cadets that he wanted to do at least two dress rehearsals this session. This caused a lot of commotion, as the children found their costumes and remembered...

'What About the Muffin Boys?!'
This week we again welcomed a few more members to WorkSpace (it seems Alex’s marketing techniques are really working!) which was lovely to see. Alex began by checking the groups availability for the forthcoming performances and also asking people if they had a preferred character in the ‘Muffin Boy’ scene that they would like to play. Once all of this was sorted and we had a...
'You Gave Her a Tranquilizer!'
This week, the SYDs were beginning to feel the pressure with the realisation that they would be performing for the first time a week on Monday! With this in mind, the group immediately set about rehearsing their pieces. With 5 extracts in total, they had to do some negotiating (and a bit of arguing) in order to work out who was going to rehearse with who and when but once that was all sorted,...
It's Almost Space Cadet Show Time!
We had a lot to get through this Space Cadet session so after the usual news slot, including tales of Ben and Zoe’s mission to clean up the river Thames on Sunday, Lucas’ trip to Comet and Bailey’s birthday (next month), we got straight to rehearsing the songs for the show.
This proves to be a very successful task as all three songs performed were excellent and the children...

WorkSpace Olympics
We welcomed a couple of new comers to the group on Monday’s session; hello Ed and Denise! Once we had gone through the names of each person a couple of times, Alex spent the first half of the rehearsal completing some warm up games. These ranged from the flexible ‘follow your partner’s hand with your nose’, to the more chilled out ‘walk around the room trying to picture and memorise every object’...
The SYDs Take On George's Green
Last Monday, the lovely SYD group had their rehearsal re-scheduled to George’s Green due to a hall hire at the Space. This was a massive plus for the group, as the room they had taken over enabled them to work on their pieces without disturbing the various groups.
The SYDs are now completly aware of which performance pieces they are taking part in and so now are on the long stretch to learning...
Space Invaders at Docklands Outreach!
Yesterday’s Space Cadets faced a slight change of plan to their usual schedule as due to a prior booking, we could no longer have our session at the Space. This, however was not a problem at all, as we had managed to hire Docklands Outreach. I met some of the children on the way and it seemed as though Shelby was leading a mass procession as she knew where she was going…needless to say, I...
'Cause Baby she was Born to Run...
Bruce Springsteen fan, Space volunteer and all round lovely lady, Annie Walker is doing something amazing. On 31st March, she will be running 5 miles around the Olympic site, ending up at the Olympic stadium in front of thousands of screaming fans. Annie was hand-picked to enter this race and will be only one of 5000 lucky enough to be competing. The best bit, however, is that she will be...

'Come On, Go Slower!' Andy Straw
Last Monday’s WorkSpace session continued with the theme of comedy, an idea that pleased the entire group (especially Andy Mitchell who was back after a short period of absence).
Alex began by working on some warm-up exercises, allowing the group to stretch their voices and bodies and build upon the notion of working effectively as a member of a team. Kings of Leon filled the theatre (possibly a...
