Trials of a Pratt - SYD Workshop
Last Monday, we had a little treat for the SYD gang, as a short, educational play entitled ‘My Body, My Voice’ was performing over the second half of their session. This meant that normal rehearsals had to be quick and efficient, so we immediately set about practising the scenes that the teens had worked on the previous week. The group began by splitting off into smaller sections and rehearsing...
A Full House with the Cadets!
What an incredible turn out from the Space Cadets this week, with all current members present; an excellent well done! This attendance made energy sky high, however this is only a good thing when rehearsing with the Cadets!
Beginning, as always, with news from the kids, we learn that Aisha and Issac have been filming for a university short project, Charlotte’s Dad is a football fan and Melissa...
Alex is back, Coaching the WorkSpace Gang!
After what seems like forever (actually only a small break of workshops led by Ammar), Alex is back to leading the WorkSpace workshops. Before we broke up for Christmas, the group decided that they would like to work on comedy this term and methods of humour. This began with them discussing different types of comic devices, such as satire, wit, sarcasm and smut and Alex then explaining that she...
And for the Return of the SYDs...
Last Monday, the SYD group were back in business after a week off for half term. Kirsty showed up with a new haircut (again!) and Sarahjane announced that she was on death’s door all week with flu. Nice. Sean explained to the gang that he wanted to work on the same scenes that they did just before the break, and maybe add a couple more in as they are only short. Immediately, he split the group up...
Space Cadets are BACK!
Yesterday we welcomed back the Space Cadets after their half term break. As some of them hadn’t seen each other for over a week, they were all slightly excitable and hyper and had a lot of news to share with Sean…Lucas got an iPad (very jealous!), Sebastian got a new camera (again, incredibly jealous!), Zoe and Charlotte had a sleepover last Friday and Bailey went to the London dungeons....

"I Went to a Party and Fell Over..." Kandase SYD
It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for; February half term! Over the course of this week, we have some fantastic opportunities available for the 7-11 year old Space Cadets and the 12-17 year old SYDs. A chance to attend workshops with the established Syrian actor, Ammar along with sessions of Laban dance and physical theatre make for a very exciting school break!
Yesterday...

Acting with Ammar - The Performance!
The WorkSpace group arrived, script in hand, going over their lines and testing each other. It was the final acting class with Ammar last Monday, and therefore the mini-performance of the work they had been developing.
Once everyone had gathered, Ammar immediately set about rehearsing the script. We went over it a couple of times (with a few extra people standing in here and there and swapping...
This week, Sean began the session by telling the SYD’s of his decision to move away from creating a spoof of Romeo and Juliet and concentrate on a pieces of text that they found to be more naturally funny. The SYD’s (although they didn’t say it!) seemed to be quite happy with this decision and so Sean set about describing extracts of plays that he had picked out for the group and seeing who would...
Dotheboys Rock, Yeah Yeah!
Last night’s Space Cadets rehearsal was the first one before half term. Who would have thought we are at that point already?! The group has learnt a great deal since being back from their Christmas break and they are on track to producing a great performance.
Monday’s news: Zoe came second in a swimming competition; Sebastian made a snowman and Isaac’s brother making a film...

Ammar's Acting Class, Part 2
We welcomed to the group, new member Brianna and then immediately set about warming up for the session. As he did last week, Ammar told everyone to stand in a circle and count to 20, in no particular order, but by simply sensing when it was time to say a number. This week, however the group were able to look at each other and make eye contact, as a way of detecting if a person might about to...
Kandase, Kandase, Where For Art Thou?
The SYD’s entered The Space in a relatively calm mood last Monday…however it didn’t last long! Sarahjane showed us pictures of her sister’s bridesmaid dress and Kaleigh and Zoe have matching best friend necklaces.
Sean began by asking the group who they know that could be performed as a character on the stage. Jordan talked about his weird drama teacher with a high energy to match her high...
